Talk on asme.org webpage

Mr. CH. Kartheek , Programs In-charge of ASME INDIA conducted a session to introduce 'ASME.org Phase 2' to all the KLU ASME members . Mr. CH. Kartheek took the help of a PowerPoint to enhance his talk and display a few snapshots of the website. He split his talk into two parts:
Part 1:

  • Background and Strategic Context for ASME.org Redesign
  • New Phase 2 Features and Other Changes
  • Implications for ASME Group Leaders

Part 2:

  • Tips For The New ASME.org

Mr. Kartheek started with a small briefing about the features of the 'ASME.org Phase 1' and the comparison of the two phases. Earlier only ASME members had access to ASME.org but the Phase 2, launched recently is open to all. Even the non-members can register into the new phase. The new phase has been launched to draw the attention of new members. It is a opening for all the kindling minds to navigate through the website to be a part of it.

He stated that the first priority of ASME.org redesign was improvements in the user experience. The contemporary look and simplified navigation invites the people to browse the website.

Along with adding online community features, the website focuses on its goals:

  • To provide mechanical engineers with a targeted community where they can interact and collaborate with others
  • Foster networking
  • Make participation in ASME communities convenient and easy
  • Attract and engage a larger and broader range of engineers – younger, more diverse, and from more places
  • Open these features to all engineers, not only ASME Members

Mr. Kartheek explained the new features to everybody and the benefits experienced by the members. All the members were acquainted to the architecture and design of every individual's profile. In the new phase, every student section had a community or group page of their own, through which all the group member's could communicate with each other. Also, we can follow the updates of our group or student section and check the on-going activities in other student sections. Mr. Kartheek asserted that ASME.org was on par with any social networking sites like Facebook, Google+ and LinkedIn. There are special benefits for all the Group Leaders.

Mr. Kartheek also gave us tips to navigate and browse through the website, and also update the personal profile account. He explained us the extent of access any member has on their participating group page. He also helped the present members to create a profile of our own. All the members immediately started connecting and following interested pages.

Indeed, this is a great platform to socialize with the same minds.

Prof. Shyam Prasad Sir concluded the session by announcing a "Industrial Visit" to an Automotive Company organised especially in the interest of SPDC and HPVC participants. The visit is going to be organised on 22nd March, 2014 i.e. Saturday. We would most probably be going to Jasper Industries.
